By incorporating a flat rear section, the Big Butt helps to position your bait closer behind the lead, increasing stability and enhancing the “safe zone” — the low-drag cavity behind the lead where the bait travels through the air without slowing down the cast.
The larger body size of the Big Butt extends this safe zone further, allowing you to cast bulky baits more efficiently while maintaining control. But unlike DIY mods or leads with poor flight profiles, the Big Butt retains its aerodynamic balance — preventing spin or drag mid-cast.
Some anglers have removed the cone from standard Impact Leads thinking it improves bait release — but this offers no benefit and actually reduces reliability. The Big Butt is specifically designed to maintain full hook release certainty when used with an Impact Shield (IMP not included).
